There are between 100-200,00 anterior cruciate ligament tears in the United States every year. The tear rate is estimated at 1 in every 3,500 population. Applying the same injury rate in Hong Kong, we would expect to see 2000 injuries per year[3]. (Fig. 8 & Fig. 9)
Arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is now a standardised technique. Successful rates were reported as 90% at 10years. Failures were seen in young athelests below the age of 25 who using allografts graft.
Anterior cruciate reconstruction is necessary for all patient. Delay in ACL reconstruction in more than 6 months will lead to in 4 times more tear rate in the meniscus of the knee[4].
