The scapholunate ligament bindings the scaphoid and lunate bones of the wrist together. Pain occurs on the back of the wrist on the thumb side. A sudden forced twisting motion of the wrist, without a necessary impact, can cause the injury.
The partial tear is pointed out by the needle.
Pain occurs with daily twisting motions of the wrist, such as using a screw driver or opening a tight jar top. The extent of the injury needs to be assessed by a wrist arthroscopy in order to plan the appropriate treatment. Here, a partial tear in this patient has been treated with a heat probe with complete relief of pain.
