This is the most common form of knee complaint after a twisting or squatting injury. Meniscal cartilage are a pair of C-shaped rings which acts as shock absorbers between the thigh bone and shin bone. Twisting forces can tear these cartilages which then can cause blockage of knee motion. Patients will have pain in the back of their knee with difficulty kneeling or getting up from a squatting position.
Arthroscopic surgery can remove or repair the damaged cartilage and hence restore a full range of motion to the knee.
After Surgery
Before Surgery
Skiing, basketball and soccer are common sports that can result in injuries to the anterior ligament in the knee. Patients often experience immediate pain, a “pop” sensation, with immediate swelling and a sense of instability with collapse of the knee.
Arthroscopic technique has evolved over the last few years with emphasis on placement and fixation of the new ligament. Precision instruments have been developed which facilitate surgeons to achieve reproducible good results. Having researched and published work in the management of this injury, Dr Mok continues to provide ACL reconstructionfor his patients with the latest techniques.
After Surgery
Before Surgery
This usually stems from wear and tear in the patella-femoral joint (knee cap). Patients usually experience pain on coming down stairs. With exercise, they would find painful clicking in the front part of their knee. Not knowing to them, their knee caps had tracked a little sideways rather than travelling in the middle of the knee. Over time, the side of the knee cap gets worn away. To remedy the situation, the ‘trapped’ knee cap can be released through key-hole surgery back to its normal position. In addition, the arthritic part can be treated to enable new cartilage to form.
