Shoulder Surface Replacement
With the population enjoying a longer life span, we are beginning to see more patients having shoulder replacements in their early 80s. Often it is only the ball of the shoulder joint which is worn and has flattened, we can place a metal ‘cap’ over the bone and this makes the joint move again.

Pre-Operation X-ray
This is needed when the ball and the socket of the shoulder joint are both worn. We line the socket with a small piece of special plastic and replace the ball with a metallic one. There is complete pain relief and patients feel complete restoration of function.
Reverse shoulder replacement is available for patients who have arthritis in their shoulder, after they have torn their rotator cuff. This concept of shoulder replacement enables the patients to elevate their arms again without pain. We provide this type of replacement to patients who are aged 75 or over.
In this picture, you can see the ball and socket have been replaced in a reversed position.
You can see the worn ball and socket before surgery.
